- Voltage designation
The rated voltage of the cable for a given application s hall be suitable for the operating conditions in the system in which the cable is used, and is expressed in the form of Uou (tn)kV Where:
· Uo-: The rated power-frequency voltage between conductor and screen or metallic- sheath, for which the cable designed;
· U-: The rated power-frequency voltage between conductors, for which the cable designed;
· Um-: The maximum value of the “highest system voltage" for which the equipment may be operated.
The Uo values of cables for three-phase system are recommended as follows:

The first type is used for single-phase grounding fault time not more than 1 min at a time, and it can also be used for systems with a maximum time of no more than 8h and a cumulative annual total of no more than 12h. The second type is used in the system with longer grounding fault time and the occasions with higher requirements for cable insulation performance.
